I’m happy to share with all the readers, this blog’s first interview to a young entrepreneur. She is a gourgeous and talented woman called Fatima.

Please introduce yourself and your business.

My name is Fatima Spencer. I am 21 years old, from Cincinnati, Ohio. I am currently studying Spanish and Advertising at Xavier University in Ohio. I will be graduating in Spring of 2011. I own a small company by the name of Flowers From Fatima. My line includes floral fashion and hair accessories, which range from hair clips to wrist corsages. While all of the pieces are great for everyday wear, they are ideal for special occasions, as well. Flowers From Fatima is a relatively young company at 8 months old, but is blooming quickly. My product is currently sold in two local stores and can be found online at http://FlowersFromFatima.etsy.com.

How was the idea of your business born ?

Growing up, I was involved in a family-managed community action program known as Spencer’s Community Beautification Program. My father had the dream of revamping our tainted low-income neighborhood into an absolute paradise. Together with my family, I planted flowers along the streets of our neighborhood and attracted more than fresh air. There was a new positive energy that came along with “beauty,” which was present in the form of exotic butterflies, bright green hills, and huge hummingbirds that were very seldom seem before. It was then that I found an affinity for flowers. I began wearing our garden flowers in my hair. Eventually, I began creating silk flower accessories that I could wear daily. While I began designing flower accessories for myself, it was not until much later that I decided to share my inspiration and love for nature with others through the founding of Flowers From Fatima.

Can you share with us your future dreams?

At the moment, one of my major dreams is to become a very successful businesswoman, with Flowers From Fatima. I hope to use my college education to further myself and fuel the business.

What do you love most about being an entrepreneur?

Along with being your own boss, comes the freedom. I LOVE the flexibility and being able to manage my leisure and work time, as necessary.

Your hair accessories are very flattering, are there any that you specially love on naturally curly hair?

Thank you! In naturally curly hair, I LOVE the hair combs. They are a great way to hold the hair back and add just enough pizazz to accentuate the curls, not overshadow them. Often times, I wear my hair curly and the hair combs are so easy to use.

Do you have a favorite hairstyle that you would like to share with us?

Personally, I have MANY favorite hairstyle. I like to alternate between them every day. However, my top choice would be the french bun. It’s so quick to do and looks very classy. it works for everyday wear AND special events, which is always a plus. I love the French Bun for hotter weather. Of coarse, this style can always be easily diversified by styling the front in different ways.

Any tips for curly hair girls?

I have very tight curls that are loosening over time. One tip that I would offer curly hair girls is to avoid using heat often, as this can change your curl pattern. This is important for women who really love their natural curls and want to make them last through the years.

Any tips for new entrepreneurs?

My advice for new entrepreneurs would be to stay positive. A positive outlook will yield positive outcomes. Things do not always go our way and don’t always happen exactly when we want them to, but as long as we stay strong and optimistic, everything will turn out beautifully.

I’d also advise new entrepreneurs to really network and meet people in a similar field of interest and work. They can offer helpful advice, guidance, and business opportunities that will contribute to your professional and personal growth.

What do you believe is the single most important thing to be successful in this industry?

For me, the most important thing to do in ANY industry is maintain professionalism. Knowing how to conduct yourself, how to interact with people, and how to present your product and business to others can certainly take you far. Not only is it important to other businessmen and women in the corporate world, but it also means a lot to the consumers and customers.
